Abstract/Description

The effects of significant hull form changes on seakeeping at high speed are investigated through towing tank tests of two semi-SWATH models. It is shown that it is relatively easy to control the frequency of peak motion response through the manipulation of the waterplane area, but that it is very difficult to control the magnitude of the ultimate high speed peak response through hull form alone ((the effect of appendages etc. are outside the scope of this paper)). It is concluded that all hull forms may have significant seakeeping response at high speed, but that semi-SWATH forms may offer some advantages, depending on the combination of speed and sea spectrum being designed for.To view the paper online click here
